As this long winter comes to a close, it’s time to start thinking about freshening up your organization for Spring! The past few years have brought on many challenges and obstacles. Take this season as a fresh, new beginning for your nonprofit and get back to the basics. Check out our spring cleaning list and get your nonprofit on track for a successful year!

1. Track Your Progress

How are your goals for the year holding up? Now is a good time to really look into your progress so far and evaluate your goals for the year going forward. Take some time to look at your strategic plan and evaluate these questions:

  • Are you on track to meet your goals and objectives?
  • What goals have you achieved so far this year?
  • What areas need more attention?
  • What obstacles are in your way?

2. Organize Your Data

Take time to optimize your organization by cleaning up your data. Here are a few things you can do for the best results in the future.

  • Verify that phone numbers, addresses, names are correct
  • Check for any duplicate contacts
  • Create lists for your donors based on things like major donors, monthly donors, new donors, etc.
  • Add relevant notes and follow-ups if necessary to your donor lists

4. Refresh Your Communications Materials

Take time to refresh some of the content you’ve been reusing over and over again. Some new, creative change can really do your organization some good! It shows people you are always continuing to improve and helps you stay relevant. Here is a list of some items you might want to consider refreshing this Spring:

  • Brochures/Handouts
  • Website
  • Social Media
  • Photos

5. Check-In with Staff & Volunteers

Don’t forget to check in with the people who keep the wheels turning at your organization. Meet with your staff and volunteers individually and see how they’re doing, what they like/dislike and how your team can improve. Your staff will have bright ideas and a unique insight into your organization — and it’s important to make them a valued part of your organization!

6. Prepare for Event Season

Event season is right around the corner. Take time today to make sure you have all the details sorted out that will make your upcoming events a success.

  • Build out event pages
  • Set up and reach out about auction items/raffles
  • Turn on Text2Give
  • Create event materials: flyers, social media posts, etc.

7. Set Up Social Media Calendar

Keeping your social media presence updated weekly is crucial to your organization’s online presence. If you’re able to, schedule out social media posts ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about creating content on the spot. Utilizing a social media calendar to schedule out posts in advance makes it easy to keep your online presence active.
